Primary Therapist

Gerald serves as a Primary Therapist at HopeWay, leading group therapy and providing individual therapy while working collaboratively with the clinical and medical teams.  As a certified first responder's counselor, Gerald works with many of our First Responder and Veteran clients. Before coming to HopeWay, Gerald worked with first responders and military personnel in private practice, as well as working with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Community Policing Crisis Response Team (CPCRT) focusing on crisis response.  

Gerald is trained in both Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) Treatment. These approaches are effective in treating PTSD and other symptoms related to experiencing trauma. In addition, he has vast experience working with co-occurring disorders, providing marriage and family counseling, and working with the unhoused population in the shelter system.  

Outside of work, Gerald enjoys photography, videography, painting, video games, watching the sunset, enjoying nature, and spending time with family and friends.
